Western Loudoun

Accessibility statement.

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

How the site is tested

Before each release, every page is checked with the axe accessibility engine in a real browser at desktop and phone widths. A release with any reported violation does not ship.

Every night, LFW’s monitoring service scans the site again with axe at desktop and mobile sizes, along with links and page speed. A new accessibility finding opens a task to fix it.

Automated checks catch only part of what matters, and a clean scan is not a guarantee. Reports from readers come first.

How it is built

Every page works without JavaScript. The directory and events filters add to a full list that is already on the page, and the number of results is announced when it changes.

Text and controls meet AA color contrast, keyboard focus is always visible, and a skip link leads past the header. Photographs carry text alternatives; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.

Pages can be printed. The itineraries and the Plan a visit page have a print button.

Known limits

The maps are a supplement. Their pins cannot be reached by keyboard, because pins at one address would stack on top of each other. Everything on a map is also in the list beside it, with the same links.

Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap, and their labels are images. Addresses are always written out in the list.

Listings link to businesses’ and organizers’ own websites, which this site does not control. For accessibility at a place you plan to visit, ask the place directly. Visit Loudoun keeps a page on accessible travel in Loudoun.
