Getting here and around.

Roads, transit, parking, places to stay and the seasons, with the official page each fact came from.

By car

Visit Loudoun puts the county about 25 miles west of Washington, D.C. A car is the easiest way to see the rural west, and parking is free at most wineries, breweries and attractions.

Route 7 runs east to west from Tysons through Leesburg into western Loudoun. Route 50 runs west from Fairfax County into Middleburg. Route 15 runs north to south through Leesburg. The Dulles Greenway and Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) link the Capital Beltway, Dulles Airport and Leesburg.

Visit Loudoun names Route 15 and Snickersville Turnpike as designated Virginia Scenic Byways.

By air, rail and bus

Washington Dulles International Airport is in the southeast corner of the county, with rental cars from the major companies. Reagan National is about 40 miles east.

Metro’s Silver Line has three Loudoun stations: Dulles International Airport, Loudoun Gateway and Ashburn. Visit Loudoun puts Ashburn to downtown D.C. at about 60 minutes. The western towns are a drive from any of them.

Loudoun County Transit’s local buses are fare free. Route 40, the Purcellville Connector run by Virginia Regional Transit, links Purcellville and Leesburg. The county runs local buses on weekdays with limited weekend service, so check the Route 40 schedule before you count on it.

By bike, the W&OD Trail runs 45 paved miles from Shirlington to Purcellville.
